New LED orchestra lighting in Concertgebouw put into use
July 1st, 2015
The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam has put new orchestra lighting into use. The stage is now lit with 80 outdoor ETC Selador fixtures. The installation is used for concerts and is also suitable for TV recordings. The outdoor fixtures were chosen because they are equipped with cooling fins rather than fans. Due to the strict noise requirements of the Concertgebouw a fan was not allowed.
Theateradvies and the Concertgebouw have worked closely together in a search for the most suitable fixture and tested the light output, colour rendering, dimming and suitability for video recordings of a number of fittings.
By choosing the ETC LED luminaires the light output on stage increased from 270 to 650 lux while the energy consumption dropped by 36kW at the same time. The fixtures are digitally controlled and each luminaire can be controlled individually. Theateradvies supervised the installation and commissioning of this equipment that was delivered and installed by Lightco.
The new orchestra lighting was put into use in June 2015.
