The Bourla Schouwburg in Antwerp is a classic horse shoe auditorium with - most unsual - a complete, still functioning wooden stage machinery.
For the city of Antwerp, owner of the building, this machinery primarily represents monumental value. For the resident company Toneelhuis this installation means a restriction of their artistic possibilities.
Oitstat has organized an international conference (12 - 15 June) to research ways to use the old machinery in a modern theatre.
