Theateradvies designs theatre in former swimming pool of Bergen (Norway)

20 March, 2019

Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and is home to Carte Blanche, the national company for modern dance and BIT Teatergarasjen, a producing theatre company. Carte Blanche has its own theatre outside the centre of Bergen, but it is too small. BIT has not had its own theatre for a number of years. The city has decided to refurbish Sentralbadet, the former swimming pool of Bergen and realize a theatre space for both companies. The first plans for the refurbishment did not find approval with the companies and it was decided to ask Theateradvies to write a new design brief and to make a functional design. With success. This design offers a transparent building, an inviting cultural heart for the city. The companies, the city and the owner of the building are enthusiastic about the new plans that will now form the basis of a tender for project developers.
