From end on to thrust stage
A Dutch team, led by Mecanoo Architects in 2008 won the international competition for a prestigious new library with auditorium in Birmingham. The Library will be linked to the existing Birmingham Repertory Theatre that is to be renovated as well. The new auditorium can easily be changed from a classical auditorium into a thrust theatre or theatre-en-ronde. Above the auditorium a tension grid provides a flexible and safe working space for technicians and volunteers.
