De Vest

Renovation main auditorium, foyer and offices

Theater De Vest, based in the heart of the city of Alkmaar has been renovated. The foyer, the auditorium, the get in and the offices have been changed thoroughly.
The layout of the foyer has been improved by adding a spiral staircase and an extra bar. The design of the original auditorium was a free translation of the ideas of Bauhaus architect Walter Gropius. The stage and orchestra platform could be extended into the auditorium. That concept is still in place. By means of two large elevators the stage can be enlarged into the auditorium. One of these elevators can also function as orchestra pit.

The auditorium has been enlarged from 600 to 700 seats. Legroom has been improved at the same time. The sound mixer position has been moved to the back of the auditorium. New lighting bridges provide better lighting positions and acoustic curtains are installed to influence the reverberation time.

A new freight elevator (2,5 x 7m) has been installed to improve the stage logistics. This elevator can move up and down, but also tilt to function as a ramp.
