Orpheus

Every detail was finished to a high standard

When it opened on 12 March 1965, this theatre, designed by renowned architects Bijvoet and Holt, was instantly hailed for its distinct character, intimate atmosphere and good sightlines. But modern productions demanded a larger auditorium. The Hertzberger Studio designed a large new auditorium featuring a technical theatre installation that met current standards. An ingenious system of floor lifts was installed in the old auditorium, which allowed the space to be used very flexibly. Depending on the nature of the programming, you can simply choose the original seating plan, a level floor space for parties and trade fairs, or a tiered arrangement with small tables for cabaret shows.

It received rave reviews in the press and from the Dutch music industry. Stentor/Apeldoornse Courant said:
“WOW! What a space. You can hear everything here, and you can hear it perfectly.”

Jaap van Zweden: “Music fans no longer need to travel to the Randstad area for top quality facilities; you can find those close to home. Every detail has been finished to a high standard."
