Unique combination of Theater and Zoo
The centre of the city of Emmen has undergone a complete metamorphosis: project Atalanta. Part of this project is the new WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo. The large entrance building of the Zoo houses the new regional theatre: Atlas Theater, a unique combination of a theatre and a modern zoo.
The theatre was designed by the Danish Henning Larsen Architects and the Dutch Van den Berg Groep to replace the old theatre Muzeval. It has a large auditorium with 850 seats and a smaller space with 300 seats.
The large auditorium is equipped with a complete stage tower with 89 fly-bars, several point hoists and chain hoists on cranes and an extensive installation of stage lighting and AV-equipment.
The smaller space is equipped with retractable bleachers with curved rows, lighting bridges, fly-bars and two double deck stage elevators, that can be used to create a large stage for pop music, but also serves as a depot of furniture and equipment.
