“Creating the right conditions together”

Ensuring that theaters and concert halls function properly for all users: that is his driving force. Louis Janssen uses his years of experience with just about every aspect of the theater business to achieve this. "Stages are and remain essential, because telling stories is a basic human need. I help architects and clients to create the right conditions for that."

Louis' approach:

(1) Taking the human scale literally. From every perspective: from the ticket seller to the truck driver, from the visitor to the artist. (2) Realize that as a consultant you have a serving role. Working with stakeholders to bring the project to the next level. Ensuring that everything is right, with the ultimate goal: successful performances.

Louis' background:

theater nut * Juilliard School NY * inventor of the wireless fly loft * board member VPT * technical manager Toneelgroep Amsterdam * president OISTAT Organisation Internationale des Scénographes, Techniciens et Architectes de Théâtre * passionate amateur chef.

"At 13, I started doing side jobs at the theater in my hometown. I thought it would be much more fun than delivering newspapers in the rain. I held all kinds of positions there, from ticket puncher to rigger. After my military service I picked up where I left off. First as a lighting technician, later as the technical director of Toneelgroep Amsterdam."

"Over the years, I've visited countless theaters at home and abroad. I got to know the theater business from just about every employee perspective imaginable. I saw what worked and what didn't. After I had been involved in a major renovation, I was asked more and more often "would you look at our renovation plan? That eventually formed the prelude to Theateradvies."
